Well while i was looking around for bantams i found something else aswell, and after some dealing it’s getting shipped tomorrow:

I used to have a 32 channel Soundtracs M-series in the studio before i got the Tascam DM3200 (well i still have it but it’s stored in my parents garage). I’ve been missing the sound of it and i have been on the lookout for a smaller console that sounds big, which hasnt been easy to find. They’re either too small, too big or too expensive for a project studio like mine. Well i found this Soundtracs CM4400, 18 channel, 8 bus console and just had to have it. The sound is apparently very reminisent of the M-series, but from reading the manual i’ve noticed that the EQ’s are much much better for mixing purposes. It also has a digital routing system and other features which makes it absolutley perfect for what i intend it to do. I also read that there’s an optional Transformer upgrade to be made on the Master output, which is something i’m gonna do. The question is should i swedify it with Lundahls? Or should i keep it english and get some Carnhills? Please comment if you have any suggestions on this.

Well basically what i will use the console for is mixing on it, using the Tascam, CM4400, the outboard gear and DAW together in a true hybrid system. So right now i’m soldering like a madman, trying to get everything connected until the beginning of January. I’m gonna try and have the CM4400 in full working order by then if possible and use it’s channels instead of the DM3200 for recording while i’m still located in the room i work in now. Zpeedfreak was rebooked to the first weekend in January since i wasnt able to give them my all, and i have 2 more bands that wants to get in as soon as possible and i already have 2 tracks planned for the first mix on the console.

These upgrades are forcing me to pretty much rearrange the entire studio, and as soon as i have all the patches working, the console fully fixed and the planing done i’ll have some more pictures for you. Might update once or twice before that, but we’ll see. Which brings me to another point!

Next i got myself a DBX 900 rack with 6 903 compressors. It might not be a surprise but i love the DBX compressors on alot of things but especially drums, so getting 6 of these was just lovely. I also built myself a dual studio version of the classic TS9 guitarpedals to use in mixing but it’s also a reamp box.

I’m gonna try and remember to bring the camera everytime i do anything that might be interesting to watch, pictures in all it’s glory but nothing beats a video.
A couple of days ago i found out that the mastering i did for Death4Told passed acceptance so as soon as it gets availible and some tracks gets released i’ll post that up.

We also started recording my own band Contour White last weekend, it’s a basic demo/rehearsalroom recording to experiment and as a way to really hear the tracks we’re writing so it’s nothing special. But it’s great to try stuff out and for me and the drummer who’s very involved in the recordingsessions to share experiences. We’re filming it as a way to promote ourselves so expect that to be put here when it’s finished. I did however extract a pic from the vid to show you:

And lastly Zpeedfreak is coming this weekend to start recording their album, pics and vids to come!

Here’s a video i threw together a while back but decided not to post because after a couple of discussions with Desecrated it took another route. Well due to some change in plans which i tell you down below i decided to not make the new video, so i can now release it for you. It was made because i wanted to show people what to expect from it as i dont have alot of pictures due to the size of the room and that it’s constantly in upgrade and change.

Next and probably the biggest update is that i’ve decided to relocate the studio for convinience and better workflow. For short i will build a mix studio at home and put together a mobile recording rig and either come to you or rent Happy Minds Studio for you and your bands recording. This is a pretty significant change as it will make it easier for me to work more and to quicker make changes to a mix and master. It will also keep the costs down so i can continue upgrading the studio for the better. The relocation is not something that’s gonna come fast, i still got a couple of projects to finish and some loose ands to tie up before it gets into motion. I wanna be able to seamlessly move the studio without affecting any work so there’s alot of planing involved right now. But it will happen and i’m really looking forward to it.

But now i gotta continue working!

While i’ve been doing that i’ve also been doing some upgrades in the studio.

First is a upgrade to an old microphone i’ve had a long time, changed the capsule and did some other stuff with it.

Then i built myself a Reamp box to be able to offer reamping and to be able to add pedals as a part of the effects in mixing.

That’s it for now.

Other than that i’m working on some custom gear and stuff for the studio, i’ll add them to the list once they’re finished. I’m also gonna add some more information on the gearlist aswell as a picture of the layout of the studio, but that will come when i have some more time.

Second i will soon be able to offer Re-amping of bass and guitars in the studio. I need to come up with a pricing structure and record some test/example files but i’ll let you all know when this is all good to go!

I prefer the tracks in 44.1khz, 24bit files, but if you have recorded it in some other format then send them in that format. I like some headroom on the tracks, around -6dB works great.  Name the files. When you send me the tracks make sure you have a text file with the full tracknames, tracklist, album name and any codes you want imbedded. If you can give me the name of 3 reference tracks from different bands you like in the text file it’ll be easier for me to make it sound exactly like you want it. For short, the more info you send me in the initial E-mail the faster i’ll have the tracks finished.

Recording is done through a 18 channel analogue Soundtracs CM4400 and a digital Tascam DM3200 mixing console into Reaper through Firewire. The CM4400 offers 18 channels of great sounding preamps and EQ’s. The DM3200 offers 16 mic/line preamps and 32 ins and outs to the computer. We got 4 more external high quality preamps for different coloration. The CM4400 is also used for mixing with it’s 18 channels, 8 subgroups and 6 AUX’es, combined with the DAW it makes the perfect Hybrid Setup. The DM3200 also offers effects from TC Electronics to be used in the recording or mixing process. We got enough mics to record pretty much anything you would want in your music. If you’re not able to bring your own drums/amps/speakers or even instruments then let us know because we got a fairly big collection of gear that you can rent for your session. The studio is constantly being upgraded for the better, so if there’s anything in particular youre wondering about just shoot us a message.
